If the European Parliament really wants to become an institution that is close to its citizens , it must take into account the 30 000 signatures on different petitions which draw attention to the environmental risks of the gas pipeline in the Baltic Sea , and a real answer must be given to the questions that have been raised
Ich denke , der Schutz der Umwelt und die Sicherheit der Energieversorgung schließen sich nicht gegenseitig aus. Wenn das Europäische Parlament wirklich eine Institution werden will , die ihren Bürgern nahe ist , muss sie die 30 000 Unterschriften auf verschiedenen Petitionen berücksichtigen , die auf die Gefahren der Ostsee - Gaspipeline für die Umwelt aufmerksam machen , und die aufgekommenen Fragen müssen eine wirkliche Antwort erhalten. It reminded me of the time when I used to have to get to a 10 a.m. division in the House of Commons and narrowly make it in , practising my side - step around the policemen. It was not quite as complicated on this occasion.I am grateful for constructive contributions and I can reply very briefly but I hope reassuringly to the honourable Members who have contributed. Firstly , I am grateful for the kind remarks by Mr Casaca because they are based on very thorough analysis of everything we are seeking to do. I wish that was a universal characteristic , but I find that some people writing in the press , for instance , have a confidence and an assertiveness in what they write , which is in inverse proportion to the amount of knowledge that they have
Das erinnert mich an die Zeit , als ich öfter um 10.00 Uhr zur Abstimmung im Unterhaus sein musste und es dank komplizierter Manöver , um der Polizei auszuweichen , knapp schaffte. Ganz so kompliziert war es diesmal nicht.Für konstruktive Beiträge bin ich immer dankbar , und ich möchte kurz und , wie ich hoffe , überzeugend , auf das eingehen , was die verehrten Abgeordneten gesagt haben. Erstens danke ich Herrn Casaca für seine freundlichen Ausführungen , denen eine sehr gründliche Analyse all dessen , was wir anstreben , zugrunde liegt. Ich wünschte , das wäre in jedem Falle so , aber ich stelle fest , dass sich einige Leute beispielsweise in der Presse mit einem Selbstbewusstsein und einer Bestimmtheit äußern , die in umgekehrtem Verhältnis zu ihrem Wissen steht
