| Mr President , with regret I would like to raise the issue of whistle - blowing. I am referring to the case of a constituent of mine , Mr Robert Dougal Watt , who formerly worked for the Court of Auditors and who over a year ago communicated to many MEPs a deep concern about certain aspects of the conduct of business in the Court of Auditors. Subsequently he went on sick leave and following that he became subject to disciplinary proceedings. As his representative , I contacted the Secretary General of the Court of Auditors , not to express an opinion on the correctness or incorrectness of the points which Mr Watt had raised , but simply to draw to the attention of the Court that in my opinion , Mr Watt was , whether correct or incorrect , a public - spirited person acting for what he understood to be the public interest | Herr Präsident , ich bedaure , dass ich an dieser Stelle die Problematik des so genannten Whistle - Blowing ansprechen muss. Ich beziehe mich auf den Fall eines meiner Wähler , Robert Dougal Watt , der für den Rechnungshof tätig war und der vor über einem Jahr vielen Mitgliedern des Europäischen Parlaments seine tiefe Besorgnis über bestimmte Aspekte der Geschäftsführung des Rechnungshofes mitgeteilt hat. Dann wurde er krank , und im Anschluss daran wurde gegen ihn ein Disziplinarverfahren eingeleitet. Als sein Repräsentant setzte ich mich mit dem Generalsekretär des Rechnungshofes in Verbindung , nicht um eine Meinung bezüglich der Korrektheit der von Herrn Watt angesprochenen Punkte zu äußern , sondern einfach , um die Aufmerksamkeit des Rechnungshofes auf die Tatsache zu lenken , dass Herr Watt meiner Ansicht nach - ob korrekt oder inkorrekt - stets das Gemeinwohl im Sinn hatte und für die Belange der Öffentlichkeit eintrat |
