It is and will remain one of our main tasks , especially for the Delegation of the European Parliament for relations with the Russian Federation , to be absolutely specific in our talks with colleagues from the State Duma as to where reforms are needed and to voice any criticisms of developments and political processes in Russia , not in a carping way but constructively , with a view to exerting influence that will promote the continuation and success of reform policies. I believe that this will be the key task confronting the members of our Parliament over the next few days when we sit down with the Russian delegation
Es ist und bleibt eine der wesentlichen Aufgaben auch der Delegation der Europäischen Parlaments , in den Gesprächen mit den Kollegen aus der Staatsduma ganz konkret darauf hinzuweisen , wo Reformbedarf besteht , und auch die Entwicklung und die politischen Prozesse in Rußland zu kritisieren , nicht im negativen , sondern im positiven Sinne , um Einfluß auszuüben , damit die Reformpolitik weitergeführt und durchgesetzt wird. Ich glaube , daß das die wesentliche Aufgabe ist , mit der wir Mitglieder dieses Parlaments in den nächsten Tagen konfrontiert sind , wenn wir mit der russischen Delegation zusammensitzen
Mr President , I rise to make an explanation of vote on our resolution on maternal health. We shall have to wait and see where this Chamber stands on apple pie , but it has , at least , pronounced itself clearly on the subject of motherhood.Nonetheless , I rise in no carping spirit to ask why we felt the need to pronounce on these questions at all. These are sensitive , intimate and , for many of our constituents , ethical questions. They ought properly to be addressed through the national democratic procedures of the Member States. By expressing ourselves as we have this afternoon , we have exhibited a presumption , an arrogance , and a desire to arrogate power to the centre and to overrule the national traditions of our constituent members
Herr Präsident. Ich habe mich zu Wort gemeldet , um eine Erklärung zur Abstimmung über unsere Entschließung zur Müttersterblichkeit abzugeben. Dies sind heikle , intime und für viele unserer Wähler ethische Fragen. Mit ihnen sollte man sich ordnungsgemäß auf dem Wege der nationalen demokratischen Verfahren in den Mitgliedstaaten befassen. Mit unseren Äußerungen heute Nachmittag haben wir eine Überheblichkeit , eine Arroganz und ein anmaßendes Bestreben , uns als Machtzentrum zu gerieren und die nationalen Traditionen unserer Wähler zu übergehen , zur Schau gestellt
