| I am convinced this is the best way to deliver the results our citizens demand.The resolution of the debate on the future of Europe is not a sideshow : a more efficient and democratic European Union goes to the heart of our ability to deliver policies and results. We all know this is what the constitutional treaty would have achieved , and there are limits to what we can achieve without it. As I often say , we cannot build tomorrow's Europe with yesterday's tools. The Nice Treaty is not enough.I know that the European Parliament shares the commitment of the European Commission to give full support to the work of the German Presidency to find the right way forward | Der Abschluss der Debatte über die Zukunft Europas ist keine Nebensächlichkeit : Eine effizientere und demokratischere Europäische Union steht im Mittelpunkt unserer Bemühungen um die Durchführung geeigneter Maßnahmen und die Erzielung bester Ergebnisse. Wir alle wissen , dass das mit Hilfe des Verfassungsvertrags hätte erreicht werden können , und dass dem , was ohne ihn machbar ist , Grenzen gesetzt sind. Wie ich schon mehrfach gesagt habe : Wir können das Europa von morgen nicht mit den Instrumenten von gestern aufbauen. Der Vertrag von Nizza reicht nicht aus.Ich weiß , das Europäische Parlament setzt wie auch die Europäische Kommission alles daran , die Arbeit des deutschen Ratsvorsitzes bei der Suche nach dem richtigen Weg nach vorn nachhaltig zu unterstützen |
