I welcome the package of measures that you have put before this House today. I believe you come here in a genuine search for rapprochement. Some of the measures you propose are bold and all of them are important. I believe that you are committed personally to the promotion of fundamental rights and that this spirit will infuse the Commission you will lead
Ich begrüße das Maßnahmenpaket , das Sie heute dem Parlament vorgestellt haben. Ich bin überzeugt , dass Sie mit dem Wunsch nach echter Annäherung hergekommen sind. Einige der von Ihnen vorgeschlagenen Maßnahmen sind mutig , und alle sind wichtig. Ich bin überzeugt , dass Sie sich persönlich der Förderung der Grundrechte verpflichtet fühlen und dass dieser Geist auch die von Ihnen geführte Kommission erfüllen wird
Madam President , to paraphrase words first uttered 500 years ago now spirits have awakened , and life has again become a pleasure. I recall these words today , first , to infuse optimism into those who are reluctant to rejoice in enlargement , and second , in order to draw attention to the need to create a new social order.Like a table , this order must have at least three legs. It needs an economic leg and a political leg. It also needs a cultural leg which must be equally strong. Without it , no table will stand , not even a round table like the one we sat round in Poland in the past. This is the conclusion I bring to integration based on Poland’s latest experiences
Frau Präsidentin. Die Sinne sind erwacht , und das Leben ist wieder Vergnügen. So lauten sinngemäß die Worte , die zum ersten Mal vor 500 Jahren gesprochen wurden. Heute erinnere ich an diese Worte , zum einen , um all jenen Optimismus zu vermitteln , die sich nicht über die Erweiterung freuen können , zum anderen , um auf die Notwendigkeit des Aufbaus einer neuen gesellschaftlichen Ordnung hinzuweisen.Diese Ordnung muss - wie ein Tisch - auf drei Beinen stehen. Auf dem der Wirtschaft und dem der Politik , aber auch auf dem der Kultur , das gleichermaßen stark sein muss. Ohne Letzteres steht kein Tisch. Nicht einmal ein runder wie der , an dem wir in der Vergangenheit in Polen saßen. Das ist die Schlussfolgerung , die ich aus den jüngsten Erfahrungen Polens in die Integration einbringe
