Our view is that the Union cannot accept this kind of blackmail , but must carry out its specific role in the peace process without being treated just as a dispenser of funds and cash. We want a political initiative by the Union which will serve to remind the Israeli government to respect the agreements that were signed , will serve as a basis for an agreement on economic and trade co - operation with Palestine , will raise the European Union to the status of a qualified arbiter in a regional peace process which is not confined to a few factions but is comprehensive and includes the necessary resumption of the dialogue with Syria and Jordan , will assess the possibility of freeing Lebanon from foreign occupying forces , and will ask Iran to exercise its influence over the Islamic groups so that the path of dialogue can bring back peace and prosperity to the peoples of the region
Wir meinen , die Union kann solche Erpressungsversuche nicht hinnehmen , sondern muß ihre besondere Rolle im Friedensprozeß spielen , ohne sich als reine Geldverteilungsquelle behandeln zu lassen. Wir wollen eine politische Initiative der Union , mit der die israelische Regierung zur Einhaltung der unterzeichneten Abkommen aufgefordert werden soll. Mr President , as a Member of the Italian national Parliament for the Lega Nord per l'indipendenza della Padania , I did not vote for Professor Prodi in Rome as I considered he would be completely useless as head of government. I was then proved right as he lost the vote of confidence of the Italian Parliament. Reckoning also that a Roman idiot would still be that stupid wherever he was , which , incidently , is reflected in the symbol on the list which bears his name for the election of this Parliament , I cannot for consistency's sake express my faith in the President of the Commission. As a native of the Po valley who is Italian only by passport , I am fortunately immune from the national Christian Democrat type of opportunism which brings Berlusconi together with Mastella and De Mita and sees in Prodi not the impartial President of the Commissioners uninfluenced by the States , but the lavish dispenser of favours to a wide and varied assortment of Southern Italian profiteers

Mir ist dies auch deswegen nicht möglich , weil ich als Padaner , der nur dem Paß nach Italiener ist , glücklicherweise gegen den national - christdemokratischen Opportunismus gefeit bin , der - von Berlusconi über Mastella bis De Mita - in Prodi nicht etwa den unparteiischen Präsidenten einer Kommission sieht , die nicht unter dem Einfluß der Mitgliedstaaten steht , sondern den Spender von Wohltaten an süditalienische Profiteure vielfältiger Couleur
Until yesterday payment card issuers could impose a different set of charges on cross - border euro transactions. That is no longer possible.At the moment the law states that the charges that apply to a domestic transfer of money - i.e. cash withdrawals from cash dispensers - must be the same as those applied across borders. A feature of the regulation , which I have just quoted , is simplicity. The rules stipulating identical charges is easy to explain to tourists using a payment card or a bank card for withdrawals from cash machines. The Commission issued a press release at the end of June explaining the new rules , which I assume will be to the satisfaction of Mr Crowley.This Parliament played an important role in the drafting of the regulation , which provides an example of the practical advantages that Community action can bring to every citizen of Europe and of other countries , should they be in the euro area - advantages as soon as they wish to withdraw money from a cash dispenser
Bis gestern konnten die Aussteller von Zahlungskarten für grenzüberschreitende Transaktionen andere Gebühren erheben. Das ist nicht mehr möglich.Derzeit schreibt das Gesetz vor , dass die für den Geldtransfer im Inland , also das Abheben an Geldautomaten , geltenden Gebühren ebenso für den grenzüberschreitenden Transfer gelten. Ein Merkmal der von mir eben genannten Verordnung ist Einfachheit. Die Vorschriften , die identische Gebühren für die Benutzung von Zahlungs - oder Bankkarten für das Abheben aus Geldautomaten vorsehen , sind für Touristen leicht verständlich. Die Kommission hat Ende Juni eine Pressemitteilung herausgegeben , in der sie die neuen Vorschriften erläutert. Ich denke , sie wird Herrn Crowley zufrieden stellen.Dieses Parlament hatte entscheidenden Anteil an der Erarbeitung der Verordnung , die ein Beispiel für die praktischen Vorteile ist , die Gemeinschaftsaktionen jedem Bürger Europas sowie den Bürgern anderer Länder , die im Euro - Währungsgebiet unterwegs sind , bieten , und zwar sobald sie Geld an einem Geldautomaten abheben wollen
