Gewiß , es steht eine Menge auf dem Spiel , nämlich die Tatsache , daß eine Erweiterung der Zuständigkeiten der Europäischen Union einem schrittweisen Souveränitätsverzicht der Einzelstaaten entspricht. Von daher ist es nicht verwunderlich , daß Ideale hinter Eigeninteressen zurücktreten , wenn versucht wird , an nationale Vorrechte Hand anzulegen.Wir möchten nicht glauben , daß sich , wie der hervorragende spanische Professor Rafael Gómez Pérez sagte , das europäische Ideal erschöpft hat. Die Europa - Idee vermittelte einstmals - kulturell gesehen - das Gefühl einer gemeinsamen Heimat ; jenes natürliche Gefühl , Europäer zu sein , ist jedoch im Laufe der Zeit diffuser geworden , weil für die Europäer ihre Einheit nicht mehr eine Lebenserfahrung bedeutet und die Verwirklichung eines tatsächlich vereinten Europa für sie somit auch nicht mehr als Gedanke besteht. Wir sind hingegen der Ansicht , daß die Europäische Union sich selbst , ihren Bürgern sowie der gesamten Welt viel geben kann
