Human rights and the rule of law are embedded in the process ; there was a clear understanding of the need for the early start of a broad - based WTO round but I am not sure that has been entirely reflected so far at the discussions at the APEC meetings in Brunei

That is the message I wanted to pass on.It has to be said , and this struck me yesterday during my intensive research of human rights violations , that we apply a kind of selection process - and I must ask my expert colleagues about this - , because a country like Brunei , which has no parliament at all , one of the nine ASEAN members , has never been on our hit list
Das wollte ich hiermit weitergeben.Dazu kommt natürlich , daß mir durch meine gestrigen intensiven Studien der Menschenrechtsverletzungen doch auffällt , daß wir eine Art Selektion betreiben - das muß ich meine sachkundigen Kollegen einmal fragen - , denn ein Land wie Brunei , das überhaupt kein Parlament hat , eines der neun Mitglieder der ASEAN , ist noch nie auf unserer Hitliste gewesen
Madam President , I am extremely happy that progress is being made in the dialogue and cooperation between the European Union and the ASEM States , that is Brunei , China , Indonesia , Japan , Korea , Malaysia , the Philippines , Singapore , Thailand and Vietnam , which also concern other very important groups of States in the area such as India , Pakistan , Australia and New Zealand
