I should like to reply to what I have been reading in the press by saying that we are not engaged , here , in sanctimoniously and naively cultivating a sentiment of injustice
Auf die Äußerungen , die ich in der Presse gelesen habe , möchte ich antworten , dass es hier nicht darum geht , auf scheinheilige und naive Weise ein Unrechtsbewusstsein zu pflegen
It is not a question of being for or against smokers , for or against the prevention of cancer. It is almost psychotic , not to say hypocritical , to vote sanctimoniously for a ban on all advertising of tobacco products. Nobody starts smoking because of advertising and nobody will stop smoking because tobacco advertising is banned. By the by , the ban will be of most benefit to the government monopolies that manufacture the most harmful cigarettes.Because the ban on advertising in the Community will probably destroy thousands of jobs , particularly women's jobs , in my country especially , to the benefit of multinationals in third countries , I have decided not be a hypocrite , and have voted against it. Furthermore , I would like to see Commissioner Flynn show as much enthusiasm and vitality for creating jobs for women as he has shown in this House for the ban on tobacco advertising , which destroy jobs
Es ist völlig schizophren , wenn nicht gar heuchlerisch , sich damit eine Gloriole im Bereich der Gesundheit zu verschaffen , daß für das Verbot jeglicher Werbung zugunsten von Tabakerzeugnissen gestimmt wird. Niemand beginnt nur wegen der Werbung zu rauchen und niemand hört mit dem Rauchen auf , weil es ein Werbeverbot gibt , ein Verbot , das - nebenbei bemerkt - den Staatsmonopolen zum Vorteil gereicht , die die gesundheitsschädlichsten Zigaretten herstellen.Weil bei einem Werbeverbot in der Europäischen Union die Gefahr besteht , daß Tausende von Arbeitsplätzen , vor allem für Frauen und insbesondere in meinem Land , vernichtet werden , und zwar zum Vorteil multinationaler Konzerne in Drittländern , habe ich auf Heuchelei verzichtet und dagegen gestimmt. Ich möchte im übrigen Kommissar Flynn empfehlen , sich für die Schaffung von Arbeitsplätzen für Frauen genauso eifrig und leidenschaftlich einzusetzen , wie er sich hier in diesem Saale für das Werbeverbot und damit für die Vernichtung von Arbeitsplätzen eingesetzt hat
