| The Commission justifies its claim that it was a huge international success by constantly citing the agreement in the sphere of information technologies , the progress in negotiations on telecommunications and the understanding within part of the quad group on customs reductions for spirits and other alcoholic beverages. Apart from the fact that the latter is only indirectly to do with the WTO Conference , and apart from the questionable consequences on public health of price cuts for whisky , rum , cognac or gin , I wonder whether the progress in negotiations in the fields of information technologies and telecommunications will really be advantageous to the citizens of Europe , to European consumers | Die Kommission stellt , um ihre Behauptung eines huge international success zu belegen , immer wieder das Abkommen im Bereich Informationstechnologien , die Verhandlungsfortschritte im Bereich Telekommunikation und die Verständigung innerhalb eines Teils der Quad - Gruppe über Zollerleichterungen für Spirituosen und andere Alkoholika heraus. Abgesehen davon , daß letzteres nur mittelbar etwas mit der WTO - Konferenz zu tun hatte , und abgesehen von den eher zweifelhaften Auswirkungen von Preissenkungen für Whisky , Rum , Cognac oder Gin auf die Volksgesundheit , frage ich mich , ob denn die Verhandlungsfortschritte in den Bereichen Informationstechnologien und Telekommunikation wirklich Vorteile für die europäischen Bürger , für die europäischen Verbraucher mit sich bringen werden |
