However , these important educational and cultural aspects must not be disregarded. Mr President , I should like to extend my warmest thanks to Mr Sacconi for his excellent work. Unfortunately , however , I have to say that I take a rather less optimistic view than him of the compromise on registration we have before us. I should also like to congratulate a large number of Members of this House on their clairvoyant powers , since they have voiced their wholehearted support for a priority list of chemical substances even though there is no way of knowing which chemical substances are hazardous and which are not.I also find it hard to believe those Members who claim that what matters is the survival of small and medium - sized enterprises. If that is the case , it is hard to understand why some of the amendments and wordings in the compromise work to the disadvantage of these small and medium - sized enterprises. In my opinion , this is a clear - cut case of Members protecting the interests of big business.I should like to conclude by drawing the House’s attention to a study carried out by the European Trade Union Confederation , which found that 50% of cases of occupational asthma and skin disorders would be prevented by a hard - hitting version of REACH

Ich möchte mich sehr herzlich bei Guido Sacconi für seine hervorragende Arbeit bedanken , muss aber leider sagen , dass ich den vorliegenden Kompromiss zur Registrierung nicht so positiv sehe wie er. Ich möchte auch viele Kolleginnen und Kollegen zu ihren hellseherischen Fähigkeiten beglückwünschen , wenn sie sich , obwohl Kenntnisse darüber fehlen , welche chemischen Substanzen gefährlich sind und welche nicht , dennoch ganz überzeugt für eine Prioritätensetzung bei den chemischen Substanzen einsetzen.Ich glaube auch der Argumentation nicht , dass es hier darum geht , die kleinen und mittleren Unternehmen zu retten ; ansonsten kann ich mir nicht erklären , dass es im Kompromiss manche Änderungen und manche Formulierungen gibt , die zu Lasten dieser kleinen und mittleren Unternehmen gehen. Ich glaube , dass hier ganz klar die Interessen der Großindustrie vertreten werden.Abschließend möchte ich noch auf die Studie des Europäischen Gewerkschaftsbundes hinweisen , nach der 50 % der berufsbedingten Asthma - und Hauterkrankungen durch ein starkes REACH verhindert werden. Eine Kollegin hat darauf hingewiesen , dass Millionen von Arbeitnehmern in diesem Bereich beschäftigt sind. Die gleichen Kollegen können sich also ausrechnen , welche Kostenersparnis das für die öffentliche Hand , für das Geld von uns allen bedeutet
