on behalf of the UEN Group. - Mr President , we have good reason to be holding today's debate on European communication policy , as it is a non - existent policy. What we currently call communication is , in fact , nothing more than common propaganda. The words and arguments put forward have not and will not strike a chord with the people , because what the people want is dialogue and not one - sided propaganda
Herr Präsident. Wir haben guten Grund , die heutige Aussprache über eine europäische Kommunikationspolitik zu führen , denn es gibt keine solche Politik. Was wir gegenwärtig als Kommunikation bezeichnen , ist faktisch nichts anderes als bloße Propaganda. Europe therefore had a great opportunity , in an area that very much strikes a chord among our citizens , to forge itself an identity of progress by changing conditions here and in the world. With this in view , many non - governmental organisations , trade unions and elected representatives have worked actively to make this fine project a success. Many of them are now very disillusioned at the excessive concessions made to the big European groups
So ergab sich für Europa eine einzigartige Gelegenheit , sich in einem für unsere Mitbürger sehr wirklichkeitsnahen Bereich eine fortschrittliche Identität zu schmieden und innerhalb Europas und weltweit die Rollen neu zu verteilen. Zahlreiche NRO , Gewerkschaften und Abgeordnete haben sich in diesem Sinne aktiv für das Gelingen dieses schönen Projekts eingesetzt. Heute herrscht bei vielen von ihnen große Ernüchterung angesichts der übermäßigen Zugeständnisse , die an die großen europäischen Konzerne gemacht wurden
