| Mr President , I have two comments. Firstly , there is the institutional side. Many Members have congratulated one another today on the result we have produced and will be voting on tomorrow. To my mind , the praises should be muted. On the other hand , that is how things are : this is a compromise , and I shall naturally vote in favour of it.At the weekend , I had the pleasure of visiting a trans - European project from the old Roman Empire , the first road from Rome to the Adriatic , and touching the wall built by Caesar Augustus out on the Adriatic coast | Herr Präsident , zweierlei : zunächst die institutionelle Frage. Viele Abgeordnete haben sich heute gegenseitig zu dem uns vorliegenden Erzeugnis beglückwünscht , über das wir morgen abstimmen sollen. Ich finde , diese Glückwünsche sollten sich in Maßen halten. Aber es kann wohl kaum anders sein , denn dies ist ein Kompromiß , und ich stimme selbstverständlich dafür.Ich hatte am Wochenende das Vergnügen , mich auf einem transeuropäischen Projekt aus der Zeit der alten Römer zu befinden , dem allerersten Weg von Rom zur Adria , wo ich die Mauer von Kaiser Augustus an der Adria berühren konnte.Wenn man sich an so einem historischen Ort befindet , kann man nicht umhin , an den Rom - Vertrag und das transeuropäische Netz zu denken |
