| Mr President , I would like to pay tribute to the memory of Lunes Matub , vilely assassinated in Algeria last Friday. Lunes Matub was a singer and spokesman for Kabylia and Berber culture as well as a symbol of the Algeria which is struggling and suffering. I have every sympathy with the emotion and anger of the Algerian people in the face of this dreadful act and their revulsion at the fundamentalism which has strengthened the hand of the assassins. Algeria is now suffering and fighting and I hope that the Algerian people and the Algerian government will be able to rapidly find solutions so that his situation can move forward.I would like to end with the remark , as his mother declared with great dignity at his funeral , that while Matub may no longer be with us in person , his songs and poems will remain deep in our hearts for ever and his struggle for peace will continue. I hope we may be able to get a statement from the Commission | Herr Präsident. Bei der letzten Tagung hier in Brüssel waren etwa 20 Gemeinderatsmitglieder aus dem Baskenland anwesend , und wir hatten Gelegenheit , ihnen gegenüber unsere Solidarität für ihren beständigen Einsatz im Kampf für Freiheit und Demokratie zum Ausdruck zu bringen. Bei der nächsten Tagung , die in Straßburg stattfinden wird , werden wir ebenfalls eine Gruppe von Gemeinderatsmitgliedern aus dem Baskenland einladen. Ein Gemeinderatsmitglied aus dem Baskenland jedoch , Herr Präsident , wird nicht wiederkehren können : Manuel Zamarreño , Gemeinderatsmitglied in Rentería. Er war ein Arbeiter , der arbeitslos war , seine Frau sorgte als Putzfrau in der Nachbarschaft für den Lebensunterhalt ; er hatte das Haus verlassen , um Brot für das Frühstück mit seinen vier Kindern zu besorgen. Zur Politik war er über ein anderes Gemeinderatsmitglied gekommen , José Luis Caso , dessen Tod wir in diesem Parlament bereits erst vor ein paar Monaten zu betrauern hatten.Herr Präsident , uns , den Demokraten , bleibt keine andere Wahl als den Mördern , den Schüssen ins Genick , mit der Macht des Wortes zu antworten |
