| The main thing is for a different agricultural policy to be introduced which serves to strengthen a rurally based economy. That is what is said in the report , and it was confirmed by Mr Santer. I should like to point out here that we have adopted a number of decisions in Parliament , for example the one on clover in relation to set - aside. You will know that baby food is now only meant to be produced from organically farmed products. You know that Parliament does not wish to see the use of genetic techniques in the area of organic food. You are aware of the House's views on genetically engineered maize. You know that some points are still in dispute as regards the legislation on trade in seeds. On the whole , you support the socio - ecological approach to the countryside. I therefore think we must take Parliament's decisions seriously and engage in cooperation , not least with regard to milk. If we can manage to get the cows back in the fields through a reform , then the bull will carry off Europa once again , of that I am quite sure | Es geht darum , daß eine andere Agrarpolitik eingeleitet wird , die eine bäuerliche Wirtschaftsweise stärkt. So steht es im Untersuchungsbericht , und Herr Santer hat das bestätigt. Nun möchte ich Sie darauf hinweisen , daß wir einige Beschlüsse im Parlament haben , z.B. den Kleegras - Beschluß zur Flächenstillegung. Sie wissen , daß Babynahrung nur noch aus Produkten des biologischen Anbaus hergestellt werden soll. Sie wissen , daß das Parlament im Bereich Bionahrung kein Gentech will. Sie kennen die Haltung des Parlaments zum Gen - Mais. Sie wissen , daß wir beim Saatgutverkehrsgesetz noch Auseinandersetzungen haben. Insgesamt unterstützen Sie den sozial - ökologischen Ansatz für den ländlichen Raum ; daher denke ich , wir müssen die Beschlüsse des Parlaments ernst nehmen , und wir müssen zu einer Zusammenarbeit kommen , nicht zuletzt bei der Milch. Wenn wir es durch eine Reform wieder schaffen , die Kühe auf die Weide zu kriegen , dann trägt der Stier die Lady Europa wieder , davon bin ich überzeugt |
