Zugegeben , daß sich diesmal die Furcht dazu gesellte , den Vereinigten Staaten zu mißfallen , die offenbar sowenig an der Nachgiebigkeit ihres Partners zweifelten , daß sie ihren Mais schon in unseren Häfen hatten , ehe sie auch nur die Genehmigung erhalten hatten , ihn auf den europäischen Markt zu bringen. Sie sollten Recht behalten : Die Kommission hat auf der ganzen Linie nachgegeben , nachdem Leon Brittan ihnen vorgehalten hatte , wie in der Presse zu lesen stand , daß man unsere Handelsbeziehungen zu diesem großen Land nicht gefährden dürfe

Muß man vor dem Ausmaß der Verantwortung der Kommission in der BSE - Affaire unter dem Vorwand die Augen verschließen , daß man im Namen der gemeinsamen föderalistischen Ideologie dem Ansehen des objektiven Verbündeten d.h. der Kommission keinen Schaden zufügen möchte.Diese Überwachung der Kommission durch das Europäische Parlament scheint umso unumgänglicher , als der BSE - Skandal gezeigt hat , daß europäische Beamte für eine bestimmte Art von Druck besonders empfänglich sind. Um die Erweiterung des Binnenmarktes , die Ratifizierung des Vertrags von Maastricht und die Einführung der Einheitswährung nicht zu gefährden , haben sie die Verbrauchergesundheit , die eine Priorität darstellen sollte , als zweitrangiges Problem behandelt.Um eine rigorose Kontrolle der Kommission auszuüben , muß man keineswegs - wie es in de der KompromißEntschließung , mit der wir diesbezüglich nicht übereinstimmen , vorgeschlagen wird , - das Verfahren der Mitentscheidung auf die Agrarausgaben ausdehnen
