Added to that is the fact that the pulpit from which we hurl anathema and preach such principles is beginning to look unsteady as a result of the tragedies and ethnic divisions that have taken place at the very heart of Europe , and the attempt at secession by the Lega Nord in Italy could be a move in that direction.A touch of realism and an element of the specific would not therefore come amiss. And so realistically , what can we Members of the European Parliament do. Next week the ACP - EU Joint Assembly will be meeting and that is the context in which we shall be able to take those measures of economic retaliation which may produce more results than any number of high - sounding declarations
Hinzu kommt , daß das Podium , von dem aus wir im Namen dieser Grundsätze Bannflüche und Lektionen austeilen , ein wenig zu schwanken beginnt angesichts der Tragödien und ethnischen Spaltungen , die sich im Herzen Europas selbst abgespielt haben , und der Sezessionsversuch der Liga in Italien könnte in dieselbe Richtung weisen.Ein wenig Realismus und Wirklichkeitsdenken würde also nicht schaden. Und wenn wir die Dinge realistisch betrachten , was können wir europäischen Parlamentarier eigentlich tun. In der kommenden Woche wird in Luxemburg die Paritätische Versammlung AKP/EU zusammen treten , und dort könnten wir die wirtschaftlichen Vergeltungsmaßnahmen beschließen , die vielleicht mehr Ergebnisse erbringen werden als tausend hochtönende Erklärungen
All we are asking , in other words , is that Tunisia honour the contractual commitments it has made. It is not in our interests to hurl invective , nor would we wish to do so. We simply seek to guarantee instruments of dialogue , as Mrs Reding emphasised. We are prepared to help in the realm of justice through the MEDA programme ; in the spirit of the resolution that will be adopted by our Parliament and on the basis of the values we seek to share , we want to have access to instruments of dialogue such as the Association Council and the Subcommittee on Human Rights , so as to ensure that our Tunisian partners are aware of the message – still a restrained message – that this House is about to convey to them
Wir verlangen also nicht mehr und nicht weniger als die Einhaltung der von Tunesien unterschriebenen vertraglichen Verpflichtungen. Es liegt weder in unserem Interesse noch entspräche es unserer Auffassung , Beleidigungen zu äußern , wir möchten lediglich des Bestehen von Dialoginstrumenten gewährleisten , wie Frau Reding dargelegt hat. Wir sind bereit , mit dem Programm MEDA Unterstützung auf dem Gebiet des Rechtswesens zu leisten , und möchten gemäß der Entschließung , die unser Parlament verabschieden wird , auf der Grundlage gemeinsamer Werte Dialoginstrumente einsetzen , wie den Assoziationsrat oder den Unterausschuss „„Menschenrechte“„ , damit unser tunesischer Partner sich der noch immer maßvollen Botschaft bewusst wird , die dieses Haus an ihn richten will. Mr President , I must protest about the way in which you have applied the Rules of Procedure , or rather not applied them. It is quite disgraceful that , regardless of the subject under discussion , a speaker on the list who has a speaking time can in fact have it virtually doubled to enable him to hurl abuse at another Member , before going on to make his speech.This cannot be allowed , and I would ask for this point to be noted in the Minutes.I was saying , Mr President , that it is very distressing to hear what we have just heard when we still have in our minds the pictures shown on French television last night of a demonstration by Mr Blot's party that was no more than a sordid exploitation of a human tragedy being acted out in France
