The report proposes a budget of EUR 100 million over five years to combat poverty. That comes to one and a half euros for every poor European. Even as a handout that would be derisory , quite apart from the fact that the issue of poverty does not call for charity.We realise that no report and no vote , even by the European Parliament , can alter this situation

I am not opposed to the sharing of information and data across Europe , but it must come with a price attached when it has cost so much to acquire. Information exchange of that nature must be on the basis of trade , not a handout.The fact that data has a monetary worth is the key to future progress and future development. Therefore I very strongly feel that the better position is the common position and that the committee’s amendments are taking us backwards in a direction that will have the effect of damaging what has been built up and has been so good , for example , in the Ordnance Survey in the United Kingdom. We do not want to threaten the financial sustainability of spatial data collection in the UK or elsewhere
Ein Informationsaustausch dieser Art muss auf kommerzieller Grundlage erfolgen und kann nicht mit Almosen bezahlt werden.Die Tatsache , dass diese Daten einen monetären Wert haben , ist ausschlaggebend für künftige Fortschritte und künftige Entwicklungen. Deshalb möchte ich nachdrücklich zum Ausdruck bringen , dass der Gemeinsame Standpunkt ein besserer Ausgangspunkt ist und dass die Änderungsanträge des Ausschusses uns zurückwerfen werden , so dass all das zerstört wird , was aufgebaut wurde und sich bewährt hat , beispielsweise in der Ordnance Survey im Vereinigten Königreich. Wir wollen die finanzielle Nachhaltigkeit der Erfassung von Raumdaten im Vereinigten Königreich oder anderswo nicht gefährden. Und das , so fürchte ich , hätten einige dieser Änderungsanträge zur Folge.Mit Genugtuung stelle ich fest , dass sich die Änderungsanträge , die von der Berichterstatterin vorgeschlagen und vom Ausschuss für Umweltfragen , Volksgesundheit und Lebensmittelsicherheit angenommen wurden , größtenteils mit den betreffenden Fragen befassen

This would technically allow Pakistan to qualify for GSP aid. I should to emphasise that , although that would allow them to qualify under the statistics , they will still have to meet the good governance clauses by signing up for the appropriate international agreements , so this would be a carrot to Pakistan to sign up to important international social conventions. I , for my part , obviously voted against these attempts , but there are still mumblings about our still having a long way to go
Indem wir ihnen den Handel mit der Europäischen Union erleichtern , machen wir diesen Ländern ein echtes Hilfsangebot , anstatt Almosen zu verteilen.Der Berichterstatter deutete an , dass er bereit sei , einen von Herrn Karim und mir vorgelegten Änderungsantrag zu akzeptieren. Damit hätte Pakistan grundsätzlich Anspruch Hilfe im Rahmen des APS. Ich möchte betonen , dass Pakistan damit zwar vom statistischen Standpunkt aus Anspruch hätte , dass das Land aber trotzdem die Vorgaben in Bezug auf gutes Regierungshandeln erfüllen und dazu die entsprechenden internationalen Übereinkommen unterzeichnen muss. Das wäre ein Anreiz für Pakistan , wichtigen internationalen Übereinkommen im sozialen Bereich beizutreten.Ich persönlich hätte mir eigentlich ein weitreichenderes neues Präferenzsystem gewünscht , bei dem die bereits niedrigen Zölle ganz abgeschafft , die Möglichkeiten für eine Aufwertung der Regionen verbessert und das System weiter vereinfacht würde
