Madam President , the key aim of the EU's detergent policy has been to safeguard the single market in these products and , above all , to ensure a high level of environmental and human protection. The proposal is a consolidation and modernisation of five existing directives , as the Commissioner has told us , to form one regulation concerning the biodegradability of surfactants , which are essential substances used in detergents as catalysts to break down the surface tension of the liquid in which they are dissolved , for example oil or grease floating on top of a washing - up bowl

There are other ways of tracing the origins of honey , as well as the pollen content to which the rapporteur has referred.Finally I would like to look at what a number of Member States call baker's honey , which is to be redefined , if the rapporteur has his way , as industrial honey . There is no such thing. I would like to think this was an unwitting translation error but this derogatory phraseology is probably not accidental. By just putting a noun with an adjective you cannot always make sense. If I were to describe Mr Lannoye , whom I hold in esteem as an industrial Belgian , it would be a meaningless phrase. We should use a real description understood throughout the Community , not an invented one. This is not a product only fit to grease the wheels of industry

Solchen gibt es gar nicht. Ich bin versucht , dies für einen unbeabsichtigten Übersetzungsfehler zu halten , doch wahrscheinlich ist die abwertende Benennung kein Zufall. Die bloße Verbindung eines Adjektivs mit einem Substantiv ergibt nicht immer einen Sinn. Würde ich Herrn Lannoye , von dem ich eine hohe Meinung habe , als Industriebelgier beschreiben , wäre das eine bedeutungslose Phrase. Wir sollten eine überall in der Gemeinschaft verständliche reale Beschreibung und keine erfundene verwenden.
