Mr President , Commissioner , as the representative of the Group of the Party of European Socialists , I wish to begin my contribution to this debate on the restructuring of firms by repeating the message of the Michelin employees , a message which I understood to consist of a thrice - repeated no , whatever Mr Pronk might say
Herr Präsident , Frau Kommissarin , verehrte Kolleginnen und Kollegen , ich möchte meine Ausführungen als Vertreter der Fraktion der Sozialdemokratischen Partei Europas in der Debatte über die Umstrukturierung von Unternehmen mit der Botschaft der Arbeitnehmer von Michelin beginnen , die die Form eines dreifachen Neins hat , auch wenn dies vielleicht meinem Kollegen Pronk nicht gefallen wird
The Committee on Development and Cooperation welcomes the fact that the rate of growth of Bangladesh s export industry is thrice that of the country s domestic production. These exports , however , are almost exclusively the work of the major companies , mostly Western , which have set up factories in this country.While there is no doubt that these firms are getting rich by exploiting the underpaid workers of this country , including children , this is not about to enable Bangladesh to emerge from its underdeveloped state or to enable its working population to escape poverty.The report calls for an increase in the efficiency and competitiveness of the private sector on world markets. This is a clear indication of who it hopes to benefit from the elimination of the infrastructure bottlenecks , especially transport and energy infrastructure , as well as making the financial system efficient , or ensuring a transparent and accountable institutional environment , a euphemism for taking action to penalise anyone who , in the widespread corruption , upsets the Western investors.In these circumstances , the proposal to release European funds is chiefly targeted at supplementing the shortfalls of the Bangladeshi State and at having the European institutions bear the costs of the development of infrastructure that the large corporations need in order to enable them to derive most profit from one of the poorest peoples in the world.Despite all that , at the end of the day , this money , which is supposed to assist the local people , will , even so , be better employed over there than the money given to major employers over here who are shedding jobs
Ich freue mich , dass ich mich meinen Kollegen im Ausschuss für Entwicklung und Zusammenarbeit anschließen und den Vorschlag der Kommission für ein neues Kooperationsabkommen zwischen der Europäischen Gemeinschaft und der Volksrepublik Bangladesch ebenfalls unterstützen kann.Dieses neue Abkommen ist ein weiterer Beweis für unsere kontinuierlichen Bemühungen um eine Stärkung unserer Beziehungen zu Bangladesch. Ich hoffe , dieses Abkommen wird der Regierung der Volksrepublik Bangladesch die Möglichkeit nicht versperren , sich noch intensiver für die Entwicklung des Potenzials der SAARC einzusetzen , die ebenfalls ein Instrument zur Förderung der Wirtschaft und zur Schaffung von Arbeitsplätzen in der Region ist.Im Bericht Van den Bos sowie im Entschließungsantrag von Herrn Miranda werden die wichtigsten Merkmale der Wirtschaft in Bangladesch und die zahlreichen Herausforderungen für die Regierung , die Institutionen , die Politiker und die Bevölkerung in Bangladesch ausführlich beschrieben.Bangladesch gehört zu den ärmsten Entwicklungsländern. Fast die Hälfte der 127 Millionen Einwohner lebt unterhalb der Armutsgrenze. Die Menschen leben in ständiger Angst vor Überschwemmungen und schweren Wirbelstürmen
