Mr President , this report is deals with promoting innovation with new technologies. As I have already said before on several occasions , I am highly in favour of computers and the Internet and all those newfangled gadgets that young people like so much. I regret having had to spend many Easter and Christmas breaks retyping all the electronic files which I had accidentally deleted by pressing the wrong key. This has made me a little hostile towards new technologies

Da wir keine , auch keine verdeckten , Beihilfen für Privatunternehmen unterstützen wollen , haben wir uns bei der Abstimmung über diesen Bericht der Stimme enthalten. Dadurch sind mir die modernen Technologien ein wenig unsympathisch geworden
Not Cornwall , across the river Tamar , which is foreign parts , nor Zummerzet where all they toffs live. That's too close to Lunnon for my liking. As for Lunnon , well that used to be three days on the fast stage coach , and there are many of us folks who never did get used to they newfangled things like horseless carriages and they motorway things that bring all those foreigners to our neck of the woods. So when I tell them that they bureaucrats over the water have made us citizens of Europe , most of my mates say thank e very much guvnor , but we'm Devon folk and we'm British , we don't need that Europe over here , thank e kindly'.'But , I says to them , they want to bring that Europe much closer to our citizens , so that's all right , isn't it.'My mate says what be'm going to do about it then , dig it up and put it in trucks and pile it up on Dartymoor so we can go and have a looky at n.''No , I says , they'm going to make us into regions , they'm going to take away our counties and they'm going to make us all one big happy family , along with they foreigners to Cornwall and they toffs to Somerset. They'm even going to throw in they folks up to Gloucestershire and other foreign parts. We'm are all going to be part of the south west region. That is going to bring Europe much closer to our citizens , so we will be all right then , won't us.'When my mates looked a bit mazed , I said 'tis obvious really , by making us big happy families in regions , with fifteen times more votes than those Luxembourgers , we will really feel part of the European culture
Weder das auf der anderen Seite des Tamar gelegene Cornwall , das Ausland ist , noch Somerset , wo die Schnösel wohnen. Nach meinem Geschmack ist das zu nah an London. London war einmal eine Dreitagesfahrt mit der Postkutsche entfernt , und viele von uns konnten sich nie an solch neumodische Dinge wie Autos und Autobahnen gewöhnen , die all diese Ausländer in unsere Region bringen. Wenn ich ihnen also sage , dass die Bürokraten auf der anderen Seite des Kanals europäische Bürger aus uns gemacht haben , dann antworten mir die meisten meiner Kumpel : Schönen Dank auch , aber wir sind aus Devon und wir sind Briten , wir brauchen dieses Europa hier nicht , besten Dank.''Aber sage ich zu ihnen , die wollen ja dieses Europa unseren Bürgern näher bringen , also ist das doch ganz in Ordnung , oder.'Darauf mein Kumpel : Und was sollen wir dann damit machen , es auf Lkw schaufeln und einen großen Berg im Dartmoor aufschütten , damit wir es uns dort angucken können.''Nein sage ich , sie wollen Regionen aus uns machen , sie werden unsere Grafschaften abschaffen und uns alle , zusammen mit den Ausländern aus Cornwall und den Snobs aus Somerset zu einer großen glücklichen Familie machen. Sogar die Leute in Gloucestershire und aus anderen fremden Regionen sollen mit dabei sein. Auf diese Weise wird Europa unseren Bürgern viel näher gebracht , also ist doch alles in Ordnung , oder.'Nun schauen mich meine Kumpel verwundert an , also sage ich : Ist doch logisch , wenn sie aus uns große glückliche Familien in Regionen machen , die fünfzehnmal mehr Stimmgewicht als die Luxemburger haben , werden wir uns wirklich als Teil der europäischen Kultur fühlen. Dieser Giorgio Napolitano sagt , dass wir ein autonomes Gebiet bilden können. Dann können Leute wie ich im Ausschuss der Regionen sitzen , der vor kurzem seine ausschließliche Berechtigung als institutioneller Gesprächspartner bekräftigt hat
