| Unfortunately I have to note that the answers to this question were always very vague. It seemed as though , as far as those in the Central Banks were concerned , the interest rates could only go up. My final conclusion is that the candidates demonstrated sufficient awareness of the uncertainties entailed in monetary policy at European level , and that they did not proffer traditional , national solutions for European problems. This openness of spirit gives me enough faith in the fruitfulness of the constant dialogue which we will enter into with the ECB | Es sah so aus , als ob bei Zentralbankern die Zinsen nur steigen können. Meine letzte Schlußfolgerung ist , daß die Kandidaten sich der Unsicherheiten ausreichend bewußt sind , die die Währungspolitik auf europäischer Ebene mit sich bringt , und nicht mit traditionellen , nationalen Lösungen für europäische Probleme ankamen. Diese offene Geisteshaltung läßt mich selbst genug Vertrauen haben in die Fruchtbarkeit des konstanten Dialogs , den wir mit der EZB aufnehmen werden. Für das Parlament wird dieser Dialog eine unserer wichtigsten Aufgaben sein. Es ist eine faszinierende Herausforderung , die wir mit Eifer annehmen werden |
