| Madam President , the compromise motion that we are in some danger of adopting has several defects.The first is inaccuracy. Israel could fairly be accused of excessive respect for the Oslo Agreements and of standing by the letter of those agreements , but not of violating them. Now , this kind of inaccuracy gives the impression that we favour one faction rather than the other , whereas impartiality is what is needed. Not only that , but this one - sided view is combined with dangerous short - sightedness , because developing a fixation with one point of a complex process where there are extremely difficult political equilibria to be respected on both sides is to miss the overall logic and consistency of that process and the difficulties which have to be faced both by the Palestinian leader and by the Israeli Government.Madam President , peace is like a great painting : viewed from close up it breaks down into blobs of colour , but the aesthetic dimension requires a longer view , and then we see that there are sometimes areas of shadow that bring three - dimensionality and colour to the whole | Frau Präsidentin , der Kompromißentschließungsantrag , der höchstwahrscheinlich angenommen wird , weist mehrere Mängel auf.Erstens ist er nicht richtig. Zu dieser Form von Einseitigkeit gesellt sich noch eine gefährliche Kurzsichtigkeit , denn wer sich auf einen Punkt eines Prozesses konzentriert , der komplexer Art ist und bei dem auf beiden Seiten äußerst schwierige politische Gleichgewichte zu wahren sind , der verkennt die Logik und den Gesamtzusammenhang des Prozesses sowie die Schwierigkeiten , denen der Palästinenserführer und die israelische Regierungen zu begegnen haben.Friede ist wie ein schönes Bild : von der Nähe betrachtet , handelt es sich um Farbflecken ; um die ästhetisch Dimension jedoch zu erfassen , ist mehr Abstand erforderlich , und dann sieht man , daß es dunkle Stellen gibt , durch die dem Bild eine Tiefenwirkung verliehen , und durch die es farbig wird |
