| I voted in favour of the report by Mr Soares on the Commission communication to the Council and the European Parliament The European Union and Macau after 2000 because it fully addresses the issue of what the European Union s concerns and initiatives for Macau should be.The concerns arise basically from the need to preserve the freedoms and rights that already existed in this Special Administrative Region before the transfer of sovereignty , including religious freedom , which stem from the principle , so arduously negotiated by the Portuguese and Chinese authorities , of one country , two systems .The initiatives are the specific actions that the European Union can stimulate and promote for Macau with the aim of ensuring that the region maintains a democratic collective life , in which the human rights and individual freedoms of the Macanese are respected and in which prosperity and peace are valued.I wish to highlight three of these initiatives that are intended to preserve the autonomy and specific nature of Macau in relation to China. The first is the permanent monitoring of the implementation of the one country , two systems principle. The second is the boosting of European investment in the SAR , as a corollary of active cooperation at all levels , and the third initiative concerns the call for the urgent appointment of a European Union representative in Macau , in order to stimulate relations between the two regions | Herr Präsident , gestern Abend , also am Abend des Valentinstages , suchte ich mit Freunden ein freies Restaurant , was uns jedoch nicht gelang , weil alle Gaststätten gefüllt waren , sicherlich mit Verliebten , die den Valentinstag feierten. Ich musste noch meine Abstimmungserklärung zu dem Bericht Plooij - van Gorsel vorbereiten. Ich schloss für einen Moment die Augen und hatte eine Vision : Ich sah , wie der für Forschung zuständige Kommissar Busquin und die Berichterstatterin , Frau Plooij - van Gorsel , gemeinsam das Abendessen einnahmen und sich dabei angeregt über die Forschung in Europa unterhielten. Da dies am Valentinstag geschah , fragte ich mich : Ob es ihnen wohl auch gelingen mag , einen Weg zu finden , damit die Forschung in Europa dazu beiträgt , dass jemand , der eine verwandte Seele sucht , diese auch wirklich findet , wie man sich dies üblicherweise am Valentinstag wünscht. Mit diesem Wunsch habe ich denn auch für den Bericht gestimmt. Wir schämen uns unserer Vergangenheit in dieser Region nicht , ganz im Gegenteil |
