| With regard to the so - called pop culture , Mrs McCarthy asked me a moment ago if I had heard of the Spice Girls. I can confirm that I have , and perhaps that proves that I do not belong to any elitist cultural movement. I just hope the Spice Girls do not get banned by the European Parliament one day when you debate Mrs Lorenz report.It is my belief , therefore , that there should be no elitist cultural movement , but that we must try as far as is possible to define culture. In this must be included those cultural values which do not belong to created works , having been more or less donated to mankind as landscape , but whose cultural value it alone appreciates and , of course , it alone can preserve ; so we have also included that in our report.I hope that you will very quickly abandon any reservations which still remain here and there , such as that we are intending certain powers of the regions. We are doing no more here than already pertains to regional policy : projects and matters seeking funding are not processed by us , but individually by the regions. As far as that goes there can be no danger , they are processed in the same way as everything else under regional policy | Was die sogenannte Popkultur angeht : Frau McCarthy hat mich vorhin gefragt , ob ich die Spice Girls kenne. Das kann ich bestätigen ; damit habe ich wahrscheinlich den Beweis erbracht , daß ich keinem elitären Kulturbegriff anhänge. Ich hoffe nur , daß die Spice Girls morgens nicht der Verdammung des Europäischen Parlaments anheimfallen , wenn Sie den Bericht von Frau Lenz beraten.Ich bin also der Meinung , daß es keinen elitären Kulturbegriff geben darf , sondern daß wir versuchen müssen , Kultur so weit wie möglich zu definieren. Dazu zählen auch die Kulturwerte , die nicht zum Geschaffenen gehören , sondern die als Landschaft dem Menschen sozusagen gegeben sind , deren Kulturwert aber er allein erkennt und natürlich dann auch er allein wahren kann ; deshalb haben wir das in unserer Mitteilung ebenfalls aufgegriffen.Ich hoffe , daß sich die Bedenken , die hie und da noch bestehen , nämlich , daß wir uns einmischen in irgendwelche Entscheidungen der Regionen , sehr schnell beheben lassen. Wir machen ja hier nichts anderes , als was auch sonst in der Regionalpolitik geschieht : Die Projekte und das , was man finanziert haben will , werden nicht von uns erarbeitet , sondern jeweils von den Regionen. Insofern kann da auch keine neue Gefahr entstehen , das wird so behandelt , wie das auch sonst in der Regionalpolitik geschieht. Auch hier , finde ich , sollte man sich nach einem gewissen Ablauf einmal vor Augen halten , was man gemacht hat |
