| It makes a laughing - stock of the debates in this Parliament.Marine pollution , accidental and deliberate , is one of the major threats to the marine environment of Western Europe. This region represents one of the most intensively industrialised areas of the world where chemical , radioactive and hydrocarbon materials are routinely discharged into the marine environment and carried by cargo ships. The region also contains one of the highest concentrations of shipping and includes several of the busiest shipping lanes in the world. There are several tragic examples of accidental pollution from tankers and from other ships carrying various forms of dangerous cargoes. More by good fortune than by good planning there has not yet been a major accident resulting in radioactive spillage with a ship carrying radioactive materials although there was an incident some years back where a ship carrying uranium hydrofluoride from France to Riga sank but it is recorded that the containers apparently were recovered without any spillage | Die Debatten in diesem Parlament werden ja dem Gespött ausgesetzt.Eine der größten Bedrohungen für die Meeresumwelt in Westeuropa ist die unfallbedingte bzw. vorsätzliche Meeresverschmutzung. Diese Region ist eine der am höchsten industrialisierten Gebiete der Welt , wo chemische , radioaktive und kohlenwasserstoffhaltige Stoffe auf Frachtschiffen transportiert und routinemäßig in die Meeresumwelt verklappt werden. In dieser Region wird die Schiffahrt weltweit mit am intensivsten betrieben , hier gibt es einige der am meisten befahrenen Schiffahrtswege der Welt. Es sind mehrere tragische Beispiele von unfallbedingter Meeresverschmutzung durch Tanker und andere Schiffe bekannt , die verschiedene gefährliche Güter transportiert haben. Es war eher viel Glück als sorgfältige Planung im Spiel , daß es noch keinen größeren Unglücksfall gegeben hat , der zu radioaktiver Verseuchung durch ein Schiff mit radioaktivem Material an Bord führte , obwohl es vor wenigen Jahren einen Vorfall gab , bei dem ein Schiff mit Uran - Hydrofluorid an Bord auf dem Weg von Frankreich nach Riga sank , doch sind die Container wohl ohne jede Verseuchung geborgen worden |
