Mr President , let me begin by giving Mr Prodi a sound piece of advice , both him and all the other nominees who wish to be confirmed in their positions by this House here in September. One of the questions which all of the committees certainly wish to ask is this : What is your attitude towards honouring decisions made by the European Parliament. If Mr Prodi or one of the other nominees replies , Well , I couldn't care less , then these nominees will have a problem

The European Union's representatives in Bali spoke of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 25 - 40% in their declarations. Last year , the European Parliament voted for a 30% reduction in emissions. The latest report by the Commission still only recommends a 20% reduction in emissions by 2020. It would be advisable to sort out these objectives , to support the same targets externally and internally , and for my part I naturally support the more ambitious reduction of 30%. So I say to myself - I couldn't care less about their photosynthesis , what I want is to go skiing , to sunbathe and to lead a normal life

Im vergangenen Jahr hat das Europäische Parlament für eine Reduzierung der Emissionen um 30 % gestimmt , während der jüngste Bericht der Kommission nach wie vor nur eine Emissionsreduzierung um 20 % bis zum Jahr 2020 empfiehlt. Es wäre ratsam , diese Ziffern zu ordnen und sowohl nach innen als auch nach außen die gleichen Ziele zu vertreten. Ich persönlich unterstütze dabei natürlich das ehrgeizigere Ziel einer Reduzierung um 30 %
