| We in the Liberal Group take an equally clear stance on Parliament's sittings in Strasbourg. We accept - albeit under protest - the ordinance that Parliament should meet every month in Strasbourg. But every month means 11 and not 12 part - sessions. We think that the Council of Ministers shows contempt for Parliament by not taking account of this , because it causes expenditure to increase quite unreasonably.It is important that Parliament get used to saving in all areas and that we do our work more efficiently. If we get used to saving , we shall also have money to spend on necessary projects , for example in the field of information technology. We must transform Parliament from the bogey it is in some Member States into a model , an example of a unique , effective and modern international Parliament working in close cooperation with the national parliaments and with ordinary citizens. That must be the goal of our activity. It will need to see if there are any consequences , for example , of the outcome of the IGC in relation to places of work | Wir in der Liberalen Fraktion sind nicht weniger deutlich , wenn es um die Frage der Versammlungen des Parlaments in Straßburg geht. Wir finden uns wenn auch mit Bedauern damit ab , daß sich das Parlament allmonatlich in Straßburg versammeln muß. Aber allmonatlich bedeutet elf und nicht zwölf Sitzungsperioden. Wir halten es für ein Zeichen mangelnder Achtung vor dem Parlament , wenn der Ministerrat das nicht berücksichtigt , und außerdem bedeutet es eine gänzlich sinnlose Ausgabensteigerung.Das Parlament muß unbedingt lernen , überall zu sparen ; und wir müssen unsere Arbeit auch besser planen. Wenn wir sparen lernen , können wir uns auch die notwendigen Investitionen leisten , zum Beispiel bei der Informationstechnologie. Wir müssen das Parlament so ändern , daß es kein Schreckensbild mehr ist wie in manchen Ländern , sondern ein Vorbild , ein Beispiel für ein einzigartiges , wirksames und modernes internationales Parlament , das eng mit den nationalen Parlamenten und den Bürgern zusammenarbeitet.
