On a point of information , and for the sake of what is termed objectivity , let me point out that Ewald Nowotny – to whom the honourable gentleman referred – was one of the main sources of information for this critical report , so it is an unfortunate fact that we will have to carry on grappling with all these problems if we are to achieve the clarity and transparency that we do not as yet have

Ich möchte mich übrigens heute auch bei dem ausgeschiedenen Vizepräsidenten , dem Vizerektor der Wirtschaftsuniversität Wien , Professor Ewald Nowotny , für seine ausgezeichnete Arbeit im Direktorium der EIB bedanken.Was ist die EIB. Die EIB ist eine öffentliche Bank , die durch den EG - Vertrag als wichtigste Finanzinstitution zur Verwirklichung der Ziele der Europäischen Union durch ihre eigenen und die von ihr geförderten Investitionen geschaffen wurde. Es ist daher hoffentlich kein Zufall , dass wir in dieser Woche über die Halbzeit - Überprüfung der Lissabon - Strategie , die Vorbereitung des Frühjahrs - Gipfels und die EIB debattieren. Sie sind für mich ein kommunizierendes Gefäß zur Lissabon - Strategie , und es ist Ihre Aufgabe , genau diese Ziele , Wachstum , Beschäftigung , Wettbewerbsfähigkeit , sozialer Zusammenhalt und Nachhaltigkeit , zu unterstützen
