At any rate , and this is a negative record , the most environmental sins are produced in these two blocs together. The greatest power is concentrated in these two blocs to make them precursors for the production of another form of economy , an economy that no longer continues to carry out irresponsible economic plunder of the world's resources. There is little point in the Japanese protecting their forests in Japan , whilst in Asia or Latin America they relentlessly clear the land of trees to make disposable chopsticks.That may very well be a cultural viewpoint , but it is not enough for me. Yet there was not a word on it in the original wording of the resolution to the Commission awaiting our votes today. We actually had to include in the text such obvious ideas , as that there was a common interest in global environmental stability.Instead of an agreement on a common procedure for the path towards a stable future , I find in the text the suggestion that Japan and the EU should give each other mutual support , in order to secure each other's global economic spheres of influence. To return to the point about the environment : there still rings in our ears Japan's vehement rejection at the Kyoto World Climate Conference of any binding declaration on a reduction of emissions
Immerhin werden in diesen beiden Blöcken zusammengenommen , und das ist ein Negativrekord , die meisten Umweltsünden produziert. Es hilft wenig , wenn die Japaner in Japan ihre Wälder schützen , dafür aber in Asien oder Lateinamerika die Wälder gnadenlos abholzen , um daraus Wegwerfeßstäbchen zu machen.Das mag durchaus eine kulturelle Ansichtssache sein , aber mir genügt das nicht. Doch in der heute zur Abstimmung vorliegenden Entschließung zur Kommissionsmitteilung stand dazu in der ursprünglichen Fassung kein Wort. Wir mußten den doch so selbstverständlichen Gedanken , daß ein gemeinsames Interesse an der globalen ökologischen Stabilität besteht , überhaupt erst in den Text einführen.Statt ein gemeinsames Vorgehen auf dem Weg in eine nachhaltige Zukunft zu vereinbaren , finde ich im Text die Aufforderung , die EU und Japan sollten sich gegenseitig stützen , um die jeweiligen globalen , wirtschaftlichen Einflußsphären abzusichern. Um noch einmal auf den Bereich Umwelt zurückzukommen : Noch klingt uns doch die vehemente Absage Japans in den Ohren , vor der Weltklimakonferenz in Kioto irgendeine verbindliche Zusage in Sachen Emissionsreduktion zu machen. Als wäre nichts gewesen heißt es jetzt bei uns in der Mitteilung , innerhalb der WTO solle man doch jetzt gemeinsam im Bereich Umwelt tätig werden

Since 2001 , nothing has happened and things are going from bad to worse. So , what are you telling us. That , in four weeks , things will get better. Why should they get any better. The Chinese are prevailing. The Chinese Communist Party is prevailing. The tougher they get , the more you sink to your knees ; and the more you sink to your knees , the more they triumph.Why do you think that this should change. They will control everything at the Olympic Games. They will control the radio stations , they will control the television networks , but they will not control Sarkozy , that is true. They will even invite him to dinner with chopsticks. It will be really nice. They will fawn all over him and act all touchy - feely - cuddly. Then , Sarkozy will say : that's three nuclear power stations and 36 high - speed trains' , and I do not know what else. This is abhorrent. It is despicable , and I believe that , if Europe does not wake up , if we continue to project this image of a Europe of merchants , incapable of defending the most fundamental rights in Europe or elsewhere in the world , well , it is not worth our while to build Europe , and this is what we should be saying to the President - in - Office of the Council.The ASEM Summit in October , in which I will participate , will be a good opportunity to underline our relations with China and , in doing this , to bring forward important global issues

Seit 2001 ist nichts geschehen und die Situation verschlechtert sich. Was aber erzählen Sie uns. Dass in vier Wochen eine Besserung eintreten wird. Weshalb soll es denn zu einer Besserung kommen. Die Chinesen sind dabei , sich zu behaupten. Die Kommunistische Partei Chinas ist dabei , sich zu behaupten. Je standhafter sie werden , desto mehr gehen Sie in die Knie. Je mehr Sie in die Knie gehen , desto mehr gewinnen sie die Oberhand.Wieso soll sich dies Ihrer Ansicht nach ändern. Bei den Olympischen Spielen werden sie alles kontrollieren. Sie werden die Rundfunksender überwachen , sie werden die Fernsehnetze überwachen , aber Sarkozy werden sie nicht kontrollieren , das stimmt. Sie werden ihn zu einem Abendessen mit Stäbchen einladen. Das wird sehr amüsant sein. Sie werden alle vor ihm katzbuckeln und ihn hätscheln. Sarkozy wird daraufhin kundtun : Das macht drei Kernkraftwerke , 36 Hochgeschwindigkeitszüge und was weiß ich noch. Das ist widerlich.
