As a Member of this Parliament , as joint leader of the UPE and as a European citizen , I sincerely wish the British Presidency the will and the wisdom to give a strong impetus , more than just a nudge , to Union policy thanks precisely to the proverbial Anglo - Saxon pragmatism , now that Albion seems to have converted from initial Euroscepticism to become a convinced and loyal Europhile
Mein ehrlicher Wunsch als Abgeordneter dieses Parlaments , als stellvertretender Vorsitzender der UPE - Fraktion und als europäischer Bürger an die britische Präsidentschaft ist , daß sie bei der Unionspolitik nicht nur eine Kurskorrektur , sondern eine Kehrtwende vornehmen kann und wird und dies dank dem sprichwörtlichen angelsächsischen Pragmatismus jetzt , da sich Albion , wie mir scheint , von der anfänglichen Skepsis gegenüber Europa auf ein überzeugtes und loyales Ja zu Europa besonnen hat

Moreover , the British - shrewd tacticians as they are – went so far in their cunning as to annoy their friends – the countries of the East – and to give the kid - glove treatment to their opponents – France and Germany – practically without touching their budgetary rebate
